Take & Make Instructions - Week 5 : Paper

Picture
Steps 1-2

Tear up one double sheet of newspaper and soak in 3 cups of water. Overnight soak is best.
Picture
Step 3
Blend the soaked paper until mushy.

Step 3 (continued)
Blend the soaked paper until mushy.

Step 4
Cut the screen in half and pulace in your rimmed pan.
Picture
Step 5
Pour half the pulp into the pan on top of your screen.

Store the other half of the pulp for later.

Picture
Step 5 (continued)
Add water to the pulp and swish it around with your hands.

Add leaves or dried flowers, if you want.

Picture
Step 7
Pick up the screen and let the excess water drain.
Picture
Step 8
Move the screen to a towel.
Picture
Step 8 (continued)
Put a second towel on top and pat dry.
Picture
TIP:
While it's still wet, push one edge of the pulp away from the screen. This will make it easier to pull apart when dry.
Picture
Step 9
Completely dry the paper. It will dry faster on top of a rack.

Your paper will dry fast if put in a sunny spot.

Picture
Step 10
Remove your paper from the screen.
Picture
Step 10 (continued)
Remove your paper from the screen.

Step 11
Now that you see how it works, want to try again?

We loved making our paper and tested different techniques. You can play around with the paper thickness. You can try different add-ins or food coloring for colorful results.
